Tony Khan Won’t Rule Out AEW Roster Split
Tony Khan is considering a split in his massive AEW roster as the company gets ready to move into a new era following a huge TV deal.
AEW has signed a bumper new deal with Warner Brothers Discovery that will see Dynamite and Collision continue on TBS and TNT for the next four years. However, that might not be the only TV deal coming to Tony Khan’s company.
Speculation has mounted in recent months that AEW could be set to sign up with FOX after the broadcaster lost WWE SmackDown to the USA Network. Swerve Strickland claimed AEW was heading to FOX but nothing has been confirmed and there is no deal believed to have been signed as of yet.
Does Tony Khan Have Plans To Split AEW Roster?
While on the pre-WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan was asked if considering the TV deal and the size of his AEW roster he will be splitting his roster between shows in the near future:
It’s not a bad thought. It’s an interesting thought. I definitely have considered many iterations of roster management and still working on some really interesting things in terms of the future of AEW media and the future of the roster.
It’s early to speculate on that frankly going into the new deal and what’s to come. But it’s a very interesting thought and to be honest, I have reflected on it and thought about it.
Tony Khan did previously implement a soft roster split during CM Punk’s dying days in the company. When Punk returned to TV in June 2023, he was the focal point for the new Collision show as he was kept away from The Elite who competed on Dynamite.
