Tony Khan Warned About “F**king Over” AEW Champion At WrestleDream

One of the title matches at AEW WrestleDream has one wrestling critic wondering if Tony Khan was planning to take a title off a deserving champion.

The AEW Women’s World Championship changed hands at All Out in Toronto when Kris Statlander won a 4-way over the former champion Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Thekla. Statlander won the title by pinning Storm with the Seatbelt pinning move.

It was Statlander’s first time winning the AEW Women’s World Title, despite having worked for Tony Khan’s AEW promotion for the past six years and being a top female star. Statlander has been the TBS Champion before, though.

While speaking about AEW WrestleDream on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, lifelong wrestling fan Freddie Prinze Jr., who is a well-known actor and a former WWE writer, spoke about how AEW’s owner/booker Tony Khan shouldn’t take the title off of Statlander so soon after winning it.

“The booking would be so weird if Toni (Storm) lost in a 4-way and then just took it right back in a one on one. It doesn’t really give Toni anywhere to go and you’re kinda just f**king over (Kris) Statlander, right?

Whereas if Toni loses, it’s yo, I have to evolve. I have to make a change because I just lost straight up in a fair fight to this girl…no interference. I don’t think there’s going to be any interference. If there is interference then that is what Toni has to deal with next but I predict Statlander wins as well.

Give the girl a chance to run with it. See if anybody can pull more out of her and if she can pull more out of somebody else worthy enough to beat her. We’ll see.”

Why Tony Khan Waited To Do First-Ever Kris Statlander-Toni Storm Match

During the AEW WrestleDream media conference call, Tony Khan spoke about how he wanted to save the first-ever Kris Statlander-Toni Storm match, and apparently, the right time for it is at WrestleDream.

“We’ve got another great former World Champion, ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm, taking on the AEW World Champion Kris Statlander. That is the first time they’ve ever wrestled one-on-one, and it is by design.

That has always been a match that I knew would be a major match on a major event, and when the time was right, it would be one of the biggest matches I think we could put on and I’m really excited for it. I think they’ve been doing fantastic work in the promos.”
