Tony Khan Vows To Use Forgotten AEW Star Again

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan believes an AEW wrestler who hasn’t been featured on television in a long time could make a return.

When AEW launched in January 2019, one of the featured tag teams was called SCU, featuring Frankie Kazarian, Christoper Daniels, and Scorpio Sky. Later that year, the SCU’s Kazarian and Sky became the first Tag Team Champions in AEW history.

As the years passed, Sky was featured as a midcard wrestler who held the TNT Championship twice in his AEW career.

For whatever reason, AEW hasn’t featured Sky in a televised match since he was on ROH TV in October 2023. Sky has even said he’s dumbfounded by it and doesn’t know why Tony Khan and AEW/ROH have effectively benched him for nearly two years.

While speaking at the post-AEW Double or Nothing press conference, Tony Khan was asked about Scorpio Sky’s extended absence from television, and Khan’s comment suggested that Sky could be used again soon.

“I like Scorpio Sky. It’s interesting, Scorpio Sky’s name came up recently and he mentioned he was looking to come back and I have had talks with Scorpio Sky about different ideas and things we could do. In greater detail.

He’s someone who has been here from day one and I have a lot of respect for him and he’s someone I really like. I saw that he said that, and I had talked to Scorpio Sky about doing something and we ended up going with something in a different direction.

It’s kind of a long story, but it would make a lot of sense in context. Maybe not now, at this time, but I do like Scorpio Sky and he’s part of the roster. I had an idea for Scorpio Sky that I think was a good idea. We talked about it and it didn’t work out for reasons between us, but it’s a legit thing and I’m fine with it.

I would like to use him for a different idea when the time is right.”

Tony Khan Reacts To WWE Running Shows Against AEW

During the same press conference, AEW’s Owner, GM and Head of Creative Tony Khan was asked about WWE scheduling events that go head to head against AEW shows. On May 25th, WWE NXT Battleground aired at the same time as Double or Nothing. It will happen again in the future as well.

It’s pretty consistent. I’d say it’s the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling I’ve seen since Jim Crockett Promotions saw a lot of scheduling that went that way. I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.

Two of the big winners at AEW Double or Nothing were Mercedes Mone as the winner of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup and “Hangman” Adam Page as the winner of the Men’s Owen Hart Cup. Mone and Page will each receive AEW World Title matches at All In Texas on July 12th.
