Tony Khan Unconcerned By WBD Split

AEW President Tony Khan

Tony Khan remains confident that AEW is heading toward a bright future.

On June 9, it was announced that Warner Bros Discovery would be splitting up its broadcast entities and other properties into two distinct publicly traded companies.

“Global Networks” will be home to TBS, TNT, Discovery, Discovery+, and Bleacher Report, and run by Gunnar Wiedenfels. Meanwhile, “Streaming & Studios” will house WBD Movie Studio, DC Studios, HBO, HBO Max, and WBD’s production arm. This will be overseen by current company president David Zaslav.

The changes are set to come into effect by mid-2026.

Unsurprisingly, the announcement raised several questions about AEW given the promotion’s close ties with the company. However, Tony Khan remains unmoved.

While speaking to Yahoo Finance, Khan noted that he’s got a great relationship with both sides of WBD.

“The two of them and Bruce Campbell really negotiated (their most recent contract) with AEW and myself and my team. So, on both sides, we’ve got the great relationships and both sides that really love AEW and have come to be great partners with AEW,”

Tony Khan Keeping A Small Circle

With regard to AEW more specifically, it’s been reported that Tony Khan has “closed ranks” and is working with a smaller team than ever. The report noted that Khan is working with Jen Pepperman, occasionally with Bryan Danielson, QT Marshall, and only a few others.

This has given Khan a boost as he’s said to enjoy being able to keep storyline plans a secret.
