“I Thought We Were Friends” – Tony Khan On Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
Although they seemingly once maintained a friendship, Tony Khan has confirmed he’s not spoken to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in at least three years.
Tony Khan, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon were once friends – at least that’s what Khan says.
The AEW CEO was interviewed recently by Ariel Helwani, discussing the relationship he holds, or at least did hold, with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Khan went as far as to call himself “friends” with ‘The Game’ and ‘The Billion Dollar Princess’, despite leading the competition against the married couple.
Though he hasn’t seen them since launching All Elite Wrestling in 2019, Tony Khan wished them nothing but the best:
“I thought we were friends actually. I think we used to be friends. (…) I was not a competitor at all. I was in football. [Now?] I haven’t seen them in a long time, but I wish them the best.”
Continuing, Tony Khan recalled when he first met Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, stating how nice they were to him:
“I’m a big wrestling fan. I have a lot of friends around. I’m also in Florida. They’re in Florida, so it’s a small world, and they were really nice to me, you know, once upon a time as a football owner. Totally different time, but yeah, it’s been a long time.”
It’s not just Triple H and Stephanie McMahon who Tony Khan knows from WWE, as he revealed during the same interview that he also spoke to WWE President and now-co-CEO, Nick Khan. Tony had publicly called Nick a “con man” during a captivating promo in May 2021, amidst rumours of a WWE and NJPW partnership.
While AEW works its way around another controversial backstage altercation involving Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara, WWE is gearing up for Extreme Rules on Saturday, 8 October, as well as the season premieres of Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.
