Tony Khan Surprised At WWE Featuring William Regal
Tony Khan has suggested William Regal will not appear on-screen in WWE and noted that he was “surprised” WWE ran a supercut of the AEW star.
Speaking on a media call in the lead-up to ROH Final Battle, Tony Khan fielded questions on several subjects with William Regal uppermost in everyone’s minds. Rumours had swirled about Regal’s AEW deal in recent weeks with the belief that he could get out of his contract and return to WWE – the company that released him in January 2022.
Tony Khan confirmed that William Regal will in fact be leaving AEW at the end of 2022, but it is believed that MJF’s attack on Regal on Dynamite was the last AEW fans will see of the ordinary decent villain on-screen in the company.
Khan noted later in the call to David Bixenspan, that William Regal’s release is conditional and that “the way it was written up” allows Regal to return to WWE in a backstage role but will not allow him to appear on-screen for the company. Prior to his WWE release, William Regal had been the on-screen General Manager in NXT but also acted as the company’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting.
It was also noted by Khan that he was surprised WWE ran a supercut of Regal screaming WarGames on Triple H’s Twitter account and lamented that it was not “in the spirit” of how accommodating AEW had been in allowing Regal to get out of his deal.
