Tony Khan Shares Insight Into AEW Philosophy

Tony Khan Smiling AEW

Tony Khan loves an announcement.

AEW is currently enjoying the kind of run fans hoped for when the company launched back in 2019. The promotion is coming off the back of the incredibly well-received All In, and its two World Champions are two of the most popular stars in the entire history.

Up next is Forbidden Door in London, which will again be co-promoted with NJPW.

In recent weeks, Tony Khan has revealed that he’s been taking a much more involved role in AEW’s booking, while he’s continued to evolve his approach to promotion.

Tony Khan Is Sticking With What Works

In a new video on social media, Tony Khan was asked why he waits until the day of Dynamite or Collision to announce the bulk of matches for the show. In response, the AEW boss said that it’s a simple way to get engagement and promote the show.

“A lot of times, wrestling companies will make some announcements on the day of the show because they get engagement. It’s a way to get you talking about the show, get you interested in the show.”

He added that those kinds of posts usually do very well.

“Typically, those match announcements are the most engagement you’re gonna get on the day of the show. I think they do very, very well,”

At present, just two matches have been announced for the July 23 edition of Dynamite, with newly-crowned World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page set to take on Wheeler Yuta as his war with the Death Riders continues.

Elsewhere, “Timeless” Toni Storm will square off against Billie Starkz in a Women’s World Championship Eliminator. If Starkz wins, she’ll earn a shot at AEW’s top prize.
