Tony Khan Interested In Running AEW Event At Historic Venue
A venue that has hosted many wrestling events in the past is appealing to Tony Khan for a future AEW show.
There was a change in AEW booking arenas to end 2024 and heading into 2025. Since attendance was down in bigger buildings, the company decided to downsize by using smaller buildings that hold around 3,000 fans or less. It has led to a good atmosphere at most AEW shows.
Tony Khan is AEW’s President, CEO, General Manager, and Head of Creative, who oversees everything with the company he helped create. In addition to that, Tony is a lifelong wrestling fan who attended many shows when he was a younger man.
In the past, he has spoken about going to many ECW shows since he was a teenager during the promotion’s most prominent years and that included trips to the ECW Arena in Philadelphia.
The AEW Dynasty PPV was in Philadelphia at the Liacouras Center, so during the post-show press conference, Khan was asked if he had any interest in running a show at the ECW Arena, which is now known as the 2300 Arena.
“2300 Arena, right? I would be very interested in that, truthfully. I would absolutely love to run there. I think that it would be really cool if we could go to the 2300 Arena sometime. I haven’t been there in a long time.“
Tony Khan Addresses AEW Dynasty Attendance
During the post-show press conference, Tony Khan didn’t mention how many PPV buys that Dynasty did. However, Dave Meltzer wrote in his Wrestling Observer update that Khan suggested that the attendance at his year’s Dynasty PPV topped last year’s.
“At the press conference, Tony Khan only made one reference to business and gave no hints on how the PPV did, like he did after Revolution. The attendance at the Liacouras Center ended up at 7,923, which was 422 tickets shy of an extended capacity as they opened up seats late when production moved in and didn’t move all of those tickets.
That would normally be called a sellout even though technically it is not, but I don’t recall a mention of the word sellout. Khan’s only mention was that they had more people than last year’s show in St. Louis. On the show, they used the term “packed.””
While some fans may be upset at Jon Moxley retaining the AEW World Title over Swerve Strickland in the Dynasty main event, Tony Khan defended the decision that was likely made by him and others involved in the creative process.
