Tony Khan Reveals Ex-WWE Star’s AEW Status
Tony Khan is impressed by Zayda Steel.
Steel gained huge popularity as part of the WWE ID roster. Earlier, she had won laurels for her performances while wrestling in indy promotions like MLW and Marigold.
In October this year, she announced that she had decided against renewing her ID contract after spending 11 months with the Stamford-based company.
While she did not divulge her immediate plans, it was revealed that Tony Khan’s AEW had reached out to her.
The rumors were confirmed after Steel made an appearance on AEW’s sister promotion, Ring of Honor, recently in a backstage segment with Leila Grey.
While her contract status with AEW is still ambiguous, Tony Khan told the fans to stay tuned if they wished to see more of her during a media interview on the eve of ROH Final Battle.
I think Zayda Steel is doing a great job and I think she does great work.
She’s come out, and we saw that promo with Leila Grey. I thought that was very interesting this week on ROH. Leila Grey picked up a great win against Trish Adora and I’m really looking forward to SkyFlight versus Shane Taylor Promotions on the ROH Final Battle event.
Zayda Steel and Leila Grey had an interesting interaction there. I think that would be a very interesting match… Certainly Zayda brought some good interest and I’d be interested to see more of her in ROH. [H/T: WrestlingInc]
Tony Khan Shares His Thoughts About Netflix-WBD Deal
It was recently reported that a potential deal about Netflix acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery was in the works. The deal was speculated to be worth a whopping $83 billion.
AEW has a couple of years remaining on its current contract with WBD.
While some fans believed Netflix would cancel AEW programming on WBD due to its ongoing deal with WWE, PWInsider reported that those channels will be spun off into a new, separate publicly traded company known as Discovery Global.
Meanwhile, Tony Khan shared his thoughts about the Netflix-WBD deal.
First of all, it’s early to comment on anything that’s pending. Without getting into anything that has yet to be determined, I just want to say we have a great partnership with Warner Brothers Discovery and it will continue for many years to come. We have years left on our remaining agreement with TBS and HBO Max.
I’m really proud of what we’ve built and I think it’s going to be for a long time to come. It’s going to be like this with Warner Brothers Discovery before anything is settled out. I’m very excited for the future. I think we have great partnerships.
