Tony Khan “Open To Working With Anybody”

AEW and ROH owner Tony Khan says he’s “open to working with anybody” after a suggestion was made for a wrestling world cup.

Tony Khan may not have coined the term ‘forbidden door’ but he has certainly smashed his way through it working with several of the top promotions around the world and sharing his AEW talent with them.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada recently called for a wrestling world cup to take place and suggested he could talk to Tony Khan or even Triple H to make it happen:

“It would be interesting to have a wrestling World Cup, it would be fun to have a big event on a global scale. We could have a tag team of Okada and Nakamura or Naito to fight for their country. If necessary I will go see Tony Khan and Triple H.”

Now speaking on the Battleground podcast, Tony Khan has said that he’s open to the idea and to working with anyone in pro wrestling:

“I’ve got experience working with different promotions and promoting angles, matches, and storylines across different companies. It can be challenging, but we came together with New Japan Pro Wrestling to put on, I think, the best pay-per-view of the year last year Forbidden Door.”

“There are challenges to putting on an event like that, and getting the matches set, but it’s certainly something I would be open to. I’m open to working with anybody in pro wrestling. You never know.”

It should be noted that AAA has resurrected its own Lucha Libre World Cup which was last held in 2017 with teams from the USA, Mexico, Japan, Latin America, Europe, Canada, and the Rest of the World. Stars from AEW, IMPACT Wrestling, the NWA, Oz Academy, AAS, and the independent scene are slated to be taking part. This event will take place on the 19th of March 2023.
