Tony Khan Explains Method Behind AEW PPV Schedule

The AEW pay-per-view schedule is a unique one, but there is a method to Tony Khan’s scheduling madness.

There will be nine AEW pay-per-view events in the year 2024. Four of them have already taken place while the next one is the biggest show of the year when AEW presents All In at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 25th in London, England.

In the final four months of 2024, All Out will be on September 7th, WrestleDream will be on October 12th, Full Gear will be on November 23rd and Worlds End will wrap up the year on December 28th. The common theme for those four PPV events is that they will take place on Saturday evenings.

Tony Khan spoke to TV Insider about why the final four PPVs are going to be Saturday shows.

“I tend to do Sunday pay-per-views outside of the NFL season. Then as we get into NFL season more of the events are on Saturdays where it’s less of a crowded football schedule.”

“We’ve done a lot of pay-per-views on Sundays this year. Then Q3 and Q4 you’ll see more primarily on Saturdays as more attention is tuned into NFL football. And rightfully so because it is the greatest product and media enterprise in the world.”

Shahid Khan, who is Tony Khan’s father and the man who financially backed AEW when it launched, has owned the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL since 2012. Tony Khan works for the team as an executive as well. Clearly, AEW doesn’t want to compete against the NFL, which is smart since it’s the biggest sport in the United States by far.

Tony Khan Says AEW Is Set To Make A Historic Announcement

In the same interview, Tony Khan hyped up a major announcement coming for AEW.

“We’re on the verge of the most important announcements in the history of AEW. There are multiple aspects. The arrival of these announcements is imminent. We’ll have big news that could come at any time.”

The announcement is likely related to a new AEW television contract and likely a streaming deal as well. The details have yet to be released.
