Tony Khan Makes Bold Claim About AEW Fans

Tony Khan has praised AEW fans and their spending habits.

AEW is in the midst of another monster run of pay-per-views with All Out just around the corner. Coming just two weeks after All In, the show will see Bryan Danielson’s first defence of his AEW World Title, while Swerve Strickland will be gunning for revenge when he meets Hangman Adam Page in an unsanctioned Steel Cage Match.

Unsurprisingly, Strickland didn’t take Hangman burning his childhood home to the ground on Dynamite especially well.

Ahead of the show, Tony Khan held a media call to discuss all things AEW, and in response to a question from WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard, the AEW boss paid tribute to AEW’s big spending fans.

“Did you know, of all the world’s sports leagues, that the league whose fans spend the most money per month on streaming video of every sports league out there? The league who spends, on average, the most per month on streaming video? It’s AEW.

It’s ahead of every other sporting league in the world. I’ve never said AEW is the biggest sporting league in the world, but we are a big sports league now, and we have a lot of fans. We also have the greatest avidity of fans of any league in the world.

It shows up in the metrics and intangible ways, too. Sure, I didn’t check the decibel meter every five seconds at Wembley Stadium because we were having such a great show, and we were in the moment trying to enjoy it as it was happening.”

Tony Khan Gives Update On Absent Star

During the same call, Tony Khan said he remains hopeful Powerhouse Hobbs will be back on television soon. Hobbs hasn’t wrestled since suffering a knee injury in a match against Jon Moxley back in April.

Khan noted that the star remains an important part of AEW and has been attending tapings for check-ups on a regular basis.

It was reported ahead of the September 4th episode of Dynamite that Hobbs was backstage, although there were no details available about the visit.
