Tony Khan Reveals How AEW Collision Was Really Created

Tony Khan AEW

AEW is currently in the news more for its future broadcasting platform than wrestling.

TNT and TBS are currently home to All Elite Wrestling, but with Warner Bros. Discovery now put up for sale, the wrestling promotion’s future appears uncertain. Nevertheless, the company’s president, Tony Khan, is not fretting over it.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Mark Hoke Show, Khan addressed the potential acquisition of WBD by Netflix and how it could affect his company’s broadcast.

In doing so, Khan praised WBD CEO David Zaslav for his continued support and trust.

The person who put us in this position in the first place — when he came in and took over Warner Brothers and built Warner Brothers Discovery — is David Zaslav. And David Zaslav’s always been a great supporter of AEW since Warner Brothers Discovery was formed.

Tony Khan then revealed that Zaslav had a major role in the creation of AEW Collision despite not having much time to plan.

It was his idea to launch Saturday Night Collision and give us two hours on TNT on Saturday nights… I only got a few months’ notice, and he said, ‘Put together a great show on Saturday nights. If you want it, you can have it.’ And I said, ‘Yes, sir. I would really like that. Thank you, sir.’

Tony Khan Discusses Female Stars Main-Eventing AEW PPVs

The AEW roster is stacked with impressive female talent who put on amazing matches during weekly shows as well as pay-per-views.

However, none of them have main-evented a PPV since the company’s formation in 2019.

Tony Khan recently sat down with Sports Illustrated for an interview, where he was asked about the future of women headlining AEW pay-per-views.

The 43-year-old admitted that it was a possibility, but needs the right circumstance.

It’s very potentially possible. It has to be the right match, the right situation, at the right time. If there were ever two that could do it, it would be the two you mentioned (Mercedes Moné and Toni Storm). But there’s a bunch of other candidates for it as well.
