Tony Khan Credited With Giving AEW Star A Career In America
One of AEW’s biggest stars is thankful to Tony Khan for giving him a career in the United States of America.
Will Ospreay became a full-time AEW wrestler earlier this year after choosing to sign them over WWE. Ospreay’s nearly decade-long run with NJPW had ended and he had a choice to make between going to a place he knew like AEW or trying some new like WWE.
When AEW Owner Tony Khan signed Ospreay, it was considered a huge victory for AEW since there was interest from WWE, but Ospreay chose AEW instead.
Since signing with AEW, Ospreay has been a main event-level performer who is known for having some of the best matches anywhere in the world. Ospreay is the current AEW International Champion who has also challenged for the AEW World Title as well.
During an appearance on Masked Man Show with David Shoemaker and Kazeem Famuyide, Will Ospreay spoke about how grateful he is for Tony Khan because his deal with AEW has allowed Will to remain living in England with his family.
“He’s super friendly, super nice. I talk to him all the time. He tells me what’s bad, he tells me what’s good. I think I might be one of the only wrestlers he’s ever said ‘no’ to. I quite like that.”
Ospreay wouldn’t give up what Tony said no to: “That’s a little trade secret.”
That led to Ospreay talking about how he likes Khan as a person and his enjoyment of working for AEW.
“I do really like him. I do think he has a heart of gold. What he’s done for the industry is incredible. I would have never been an American wrestler without him. I would have stuck with Japan for the rest of my life because I would have never thought this was possible when it came to coming over to America to wrestle, you’d have to move here.”
“As much as I do enjoy coming over and doing my visits, my home is the UK. I want to be around my family. That was never going to happen without AEW. AEW has come along and now that I’m on weekly television, which I never thought was going to be possible, and my residence is still in the United Kingdom.”
