Tony Khan Allegedly Ghosted 6-Time WWE World Champion
Chris Jericho last wrestled on AEW TV after his defeat against Bandido at the Dynasty event on April 6, 2025. The next Dynamite episode saw him leave his allies Big Bill and Bryan Keith behind, marking the official end of his Learning Tree storyline and the beginning of his hiatus. Since then, Jericho’s absence has been explained as a planned break to focus on his band Fozzy, rather than injury or creative disputes.
Amidst his absence, rumors of a return to WWE started swirling. Speculation regarding Jericho’s potential WWE return gained momentum in August 2025 after he liked a social media post suggesting a comeback. Several WWE insiders and talent have openly discussed interest in having The Demo God rejoin in 2026, anticipating his AEW contract expiry at the end of the year.
The 6-time WWE World Champion addressed these rumors in an interview with Daily Mail, saying he “wouldn’t be opposed” to a WWE run but also clarified that he’s “not going anywhere for a while”. AEW president Tony Khan reiterated his respect and hopes for Jericho’s return, stating in an interview on the Torg and Elliott Show that AEW “absolutely” wants Jericho back, “hopefully soon”.
Tony Khan and Chris Jericho Had Communication Issues
It is widely believed that Chris Jericho holds a significant place in Tony Khan’s promotion, given the experience he has as a veteran and what he brings to the table. However, ex-AEW star Jake Hager’s recent claims shift the narrative completely, forcing the fans to wonder whether Jericho is really that important to Khan. In an interview on UnSKripted with Sportskeeda, Jake Hager claimed that Tony Khan often ignored Y2J’s messages for weeks at a time.
“Even Chris, he would tell me that Tony would not respond to his like messages for like two weeks. It became a point to where like either AEW is important or it’s not. And it just seemed like it was not to him.”
“They stopped doing production meetings. They stopped doing anything to make the show timely. We would be waiting around till like 5:00 p.m. to find out what we’re doing that day. And like—what live television show does that? Only one—only one with money behind it.”
