Tony Khan Confirms Future Of AEW Continental Classic

Tony Khan AEW

The Continental Classic has been a welcome addition to AEW for many fans and Tony Khan has some good news for them.

The Continental Classic was announced as a twelve-man, round-robin tournament that would see the winners of two leagues clashing at Worlds End to find an overall winner. The stakes were raised when Tony Khan revealed the prize of winning the Continental Classic would be the new American Triple Crown.

Many have wondered if this tournament would be a one-off in AEW or if the company would attempt to replicate the success of NJPW’s famed G1 Climax and now fans have their answer.

Tony Khan All But Confirms Continental Classic Return

Speaking at the ROH Final Battle Media Scrum, Tony Khan discussed how the Continental Classic had been going and all but confirmed that the tournament will make a return in 2024:

The fans have stepped up, it’s safe to say the fans have put their money where their mouth is. The shows are doing great, the episodes of our AEW television have been outstanding and we’re doing great ratings. We’ve seen [a] lift week after week in ratings and I’m attributing a lot of that to the great Continental Classic and the support of the wrestling fans.

I also think it’s been tremendous and certainly you could potentially see more involvement next but the way it’s going I think it’s a safe bet to say we’ll be back next year for the Continental Classic.

With only one round of matches to go in the Gold League and two in the Blue League, there are still nine AEW stars who could go on to win the tournament with only Daniel Garcia, Mark Briscoe, and Jay Lethal competing for pride.
