Tony Khan Explains MJF’s AEW Return
AEW CEO Tony Khan has opened up about MJF returning to the company in shocking fashion at All Out after the star previously told Khan to “fire me you f*cking mark.”
The saga between MJF and AEW reared its head in May on the week of the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas. MJF met Wardlow in a match that concluded their rivalry but all the attention was on the Long Island native’s future as he apparently wanted to leave.
Things culminated in MJF laying bare his feelings on AEW and company President Tony Khan on Dynamite where he famously launched into an expletive-laden rant urging Khan to fire him.
Since then, there has been radio silence while the world of AEW keeps moving along but that all changed once again at All Out. The Casino Ladder Match was disrupted by masked figures attacking all of the participants. One of the masked men then climbed the ladder and grabbed the chip to guarantee a future AEW Championship match, that man was Stokely Hathaway.
Hathaway passed the chip to another masked man and it wasn’t until CM Punk defeated Jon Moxley in the night’s main event that the man now in possession of a shot at Punk and the title is none other than Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
Speaking at the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan discussed how the star was brought back into the fold:
“I’m the one who asked him to come back, because MJF’s a big star in this company, and this is one of the biggest events. A year ago, CM Punk debuted here, and I thought it was right for the fans … For the fans, I thought the best that would do as a company was bring MJF back.”
