Tony Khan Dismisses Fan Theory About AEW
Tony Khan thinks one major theory about AEW isn’t true.
Since the company’s launch back in 2019, AEW has placed incredible importance on the action in the ring. This quickly gave the company a different feel to WWE, where much more emphasis is placed on promos, interviews, and backstage segments.
However, while this was welcomed by many, it also led to claims that AEW is majorly lacking when it comes to storytelling. This has created an often-repeated trope that in AEW, the wrestling in AEW happens for little or no reason, and matches are just thrown together.
Tony Khan Hits Back
During an appearance on The Superstar Crossover, Khan was asked what he believes is the biggest misconception about AEW. In response, Khan picked out the theory that the on-screen product lacks stories despite impressive in-ring action.
Khan described the claims as a “falsehood” while pointing to the long-term story that saw “Hangman” Adam Page defeat Jon Moxley for the World Championship at All In.
“I think the stories in AEW have been as strong as ever. The wrestling people will say AEW is great.
I think a lot of people would concede the action and wrestling- The athletic action is absolutely fantastic. Everyone agrees. And also, if you haven’t seen the show lately or if you’re just listening to a false narrative and you can tell me honestly whether you agree with this or not, Josh. I think the stories in AEW have been fantastic this year, and we’ve been talking a long time about some of the great stories in AEW.
And you even just said how fantastic you thought some of the storytelling around Jon Moxley’s World Championship reign has been. People even question that aspect of it and I think that was proven right. But then certainly whether you love them or not, nobody can question, there’s a lot of storytelling in AEW.
I think it’s fantastic, and a lot of the fans who actually pay attention to it think it’s great. But there will be people…Tell me if you agree with this or not. There’s people that would say that there’s a lack, and I don’t agree with this, I think it’s untrue, of stories in AEW. I don’t think that’s true at all, and it’s really, I think, not only a misconception, but a falsehood that people spread.”
The August 13 edition of Dynamite is looking set to be another stacked affair as Adam Page comes face-to-face with MJF, and Jon Moxley takes on Kevin Knight.
Mercedes Mone will also be in actionwhen she teams with Thekla, and Skye Blue to face Alex Windsor, Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata.
Elsewhere on Dynamite, Kyle Fletcher will find out the identity of his opponent at Forbidden Door. The TNT Champion challenged one of NJPW’s very best to step up and face at the event in London, England.
It’s already been a big year for Fletcher who recently signed a new long-term, big money AEW contract.
Speaking in a different interview, Tony Khan laid out plans for a special golf-themed episode of Dynamite called “Fairway To Heaven.”
