Tony Khan Delighted To Have Kenny Omega Back

Kenny Omega cuts a promo on AEW Dynamite

Kenny Omega is back in AEW.

After a 13-month-long battle with diverticulitis, Kenny Omega returned to the ring at Wrestle Dynasty in Japan on January 5th. The illness put Omega’s career in jeopardy, and it’s been reported it could have even taken his life, but despite those odds, Omega is back and as determined as ever.

Inside the world-famous Tokyo Dome, Omega defeated Gabe Kidd in a bloody war and proved he’d lost nothing in his absence.

Days later Omega returned to Dynamite and vowed to show the world just why he’s the one true God of professional wrestling. As his comeback continues, Omega will now challenge Brian Cage on Dynamite Maximum Carnage, and Tony Khan can’t wait to have his former World Champion back.

Tony Khan Is Excited About Kenny Omega’s Return

Ahead of Dynamite, Tony Khan sat down with The Battleground Podcast to discuss all things AEW. During the conversation, Khan expressed his excitement at Omega’s return to action and his opponent Cage.

“It’s so exciting to have some of our top stars returning to AEW. Tonight, Kenny Omega returns to the AEW ring for the first time in over a year. Tonight’s Kenny’s first match back on television since 2023. We haven’t seen Kenny Omega in the ring here in America in a really long time.

He did have a comeback match in Japan that went very well, but now he’s being tested against one of the most powerful and one of the most impressive athletes in wrestling in my lifetime that I can ever remember. And that’s The Machine Brian Cage. It is rare, and it is very exceptional to find somebody with this level of power, speed, and athleticism.”

After praising Brian Cage and describing him as a “top star,” Khan reiterated that it was “huge” to have Omega back in the AEW fold.

“And last week, we saw Brian Cage punch Kenny Omega in his surgically repaired guts. What’s going to happen with Brian Cage steps in the ring with Kenny Omega tonight? It’s going to be awesome. I cannot wait for that, and it’s been huge having Kenny Omega back in AEW.

It was a great surprise when he came out at AEW Worlds End, and then last week, what a cliff-hanger to AEW Dynamite setting up this week’s show to see Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay standing tall together. We’ve never seen that before.”

Elsewhere on the show, Jon Moxley will defend the AEW World Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs. The bout is a rematch from Dynamite back in April when Hobbs suffered a serious knee injury while challenging Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
