Tony Khan All But Confirms New AEW Media Rights Deal
Tony Khan has given an update on AEW’s media rights negotiations.
Puck’s John Ourand recently reported that AEW has agreed a new media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery. The promotion’s existing deal is believed to expire at the end of 2024.
The new contract is said to be worth $170 million per year for three years, with a fourth option year. As part of the deal, AEW programming will air twice a week on TBS, TNT, and TruTV. Ourand added that an announcement could be made within days barring any last-minute changes.
However, it’s been reported that AEW Rampage could be scrapped as part of the deal, leading to the launch of a new show called “Shockwave.”
“AEW And TBS And TNT Are Here To Stay” – Tony Khan
During a new interview with Busted Open Radio, Khan refused to confirm the report from Puck but did say that AEW has a “really exciting future” with WBD.
“I know they have been reporting things that are very interesting. There are a lot of reports and rumors. I have not confirmed and Warner Brothers has not confirmed anything officially,” he said, adding he has not leaked any info to Puck. “I think we have a really exciting future there. I can say with 100% certainty, AEW and TBS and TNT are here to stay for a long time.”
Meanwhile, Tony Khan looks set to lose the Lucha Brothers to WWE after it was reported a deal between the former AEW World Tag Team Champions and the sports entertainment giant has been agreed.
Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix will sign multi-year contracts and debut on the main roster.
