Tony Khan Compares Sting To Hollywood Legend

Sting AEW

Sting remains Tony Khan of Hollywood royalty.

After suffering a serious neck injury at Night of Champions 2015, Sting announced his retirement a year later while being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. However, as the old wrestling adage goes, “never say never.”

In December 2020, Sting debuted with AEW and stunned fans by resuming his career four months later. The Icon continued to wrestle fairly regularly before finally hanging up his boots at Revolution 2024 following a wild tag team match alongside Darby Allin. In another surprise, Sting and Allin retained the World Tag Team Titles with a win over the Young Bucks.

The match also featured both of the veteran’s sons, as well as cameos from Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat.

Tony Khan Remains In Awe Of Sting

Tony Khan has regularly stated that Sting’s retirement is his greatest night in AEW, and that viewpoint won’t be changing any time soon. During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Khan again talked up the match before comparing the legend to Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

“Sting and Darby Allin versus the Young Bucks at AEW Revolution, I think, is the greatest retirement match ever and I think Sting really did the work on the retirement run.

Sting, to me, is like the Tom Cruise of pro wrestling. You know how Tom Cruise in recent years has become this insane stunt man, the greatest stunt actor of all time. That was Sting in his final years. Everybody who has ever watched a movie knows Tom Cruise. Everybody who has ever watched a wrestling match knows Sting.

They both, into their 60s, they kind of still look the same. They both went really hard and became crazy stunt men and did, I think, the best work of their career into their 60s,”

Speaking in a recent interview, Sting revealed that he’s never watched his old matches back, including his final match against the Young Bucks. He explained that while he’s seen clips of the match, once he’s completed a task or appearance, he tends to move on quickly.
