Tony Khan Addresses Chris Jericho’s AEW Future Amid WWE Return Rumors

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is rumored to return to WWE after his AEW contract expires at the end of 2025.

Y2J has been absent from AEW programming since early 2025. This has led many to believe that his time in AEW has come to an end. On a few occasions, the Demo God himself has teased returning to the Stamford-based promotion, which has further fueled the speculation of his WWE return.

A few days ago, Dave Meltzer released a report on the Wrestling Observer Radio stating that people in WWE expect Jericho to return to WWE. He also noted that Jericho’s WWE return plans would involve a retirement tour and a Hall of Fame induction.

“I will say this, people in WWE believe that he’s coming to WWE. For what that’s worth. That’s not a new story. I mean, that’s been said before. .. If he debuts at the Royal Rumble, which is something that’s been rumored for actually a while, you know work the Rumble to Mania or something, Hall of Fame, all that stuff. I think that if that happens, he’s not going to be saying it and he’ll want it to be a surprise,” Meltzer said.

Tony Khan Is “Grateful to Chris Jericho for Everything”

Tony Khan was a recent guest on the Busted Open podcast. During the interview, he was asked to provide an update on the Jericho situation and comment on whether he’ll be back in AEW. Khan responded ambiguously, giving no definitive answer. But highlighted that he’d love to have Jericho continue his journey in his company.

“Yeah, I love Chris Jericho. He’s a huge part of AEW. He’s been here since the beginning and you know, I think we’ll see what happens here in the coming months but, Chris is always welcome, big part of AEW, we’d always want to have here so, I absolutely am so grateful to Chris Jericho for everything he’s done and you mention that AEW book, looking at the history, well, Chris Jericho is a huge part of that history.”

“The very first AEW World Champion and somebody who’s now a nine-time world champion and has won several of those championships here with us. So, I am very, very grateful to Chris and Chris is always a very welcome, huge part of AEW.” [H/T Fightful]
