Chris Jericho

Tony Khan has given a new update on Chris Jericho.

Throughout August, there was increased speculation that Chris Jericho could return to WWE when his AEW contract runs out. The first-ever AEW World Champion is expected to become a free agent in December 2025.

In the eyes of many, this sets up a potential comeback at the Royal Rumble in early 2026.

The speculation included claims that Jericho has reached out to WWE regarding a potential deal, and that several people within the company would welcome him back.

More recently, Chris Jericho admitted that he’d be open to returning to WWE, but refused to confirm that the sports entertainment giant would be his next destination. Jericho was also quick to praise AEW and reiterated that he remains under contract with the promotion.

He’s been great with us and has been with us since the first event. The very first AEW World Champion, and Chris is a huge part of the history in AEW, and is still in great shape and a great wrestler.”

When pressed further on potential plans for Jericho, Khan urged fans to stay tuned.
