Tony Khan Breaks Silence On Cody Rhodes’ Shocking AEW Accusations
Cody Rhodes has made some serious accusations against AEW. The promotion’s owner and president, Tony Khan, has finally responded.
The American Nightmare joined forces with Khan, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega to launch AEW in 2019. In addition to being an on-screen talent, Rhodes served as Executive Vice President.
The 40-year-old’s run in AEW lasted for only three years before he departed in 2022. Later that same year, he returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
In an interview with The Ringer’s Bill Simmons Podcast, Rhodes addressed his AEW exit, accusing the promotion of disrespecting him.
If I ever felt disrespected ever at WWE, that’s one thing. That’s a company that was built… that’s the Yankees. That’s the flagship of it all. Feeling disrespected at something I built with my friends. That we built. Feeling disrespected there, I wouldn’t stand for it.
What Did Tony Khan Say About Cody Rhodes’ Comments?
In a recent interview with Q101, Tony Khan was asked about Cody Rhodes’ accusations. He seemingly took a dig at the Undisputed WWE Champion, stating that the WWE star does a lot of interviews and finds himself in need of speaking much.
However, he stated that he would give Cody Rhodes the benefit of the doubt, pointing out that he had also heard the 40-year-old say a lot of positive things about AEW. Khan also discussed his current relationship with the Undisputed WWE Champion.
You know, he does a lot of interviews, and I think when you have to say so many words so often — because he works so hard, he works such a big schedule — to his credit, I bet he does hundreds of interviews a year. And I’m not sure I agree with that, but I also would give him the benefit of the doubt that, you know, I’ve heard him say a lot of positive things, too. For somebody that doesn’t work here and is involved in a competitive promotion, he’s usually pretty gracious with the things he says. I’ve seen him since he’s been gone, and it’s always been very positive and good. I’ve seen him since he’s been gone, and it’s always been very positive and good. I have only good things to say about him and his contributions here. It’s okay. You know, that’s okay. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions. [H/T: Ringside News]
