Tony Khan Back In The Weeds Of AEW Creative
Many in AEW were celebrating Collision as some major moments took place but could that be down to Tony Khan taking back control?
Tony Khan has been the head booker in AEW since he founded the company in early 2019. Khan has control over the company’s creative direction, something that has been frequently criticised by some sections of fans.
In recent months, however, the belief has been that Jon Moxley has had more creative freedom with his polarising Death Riders storyline while the venerable RJ City has been a driving force behind the months-long feud between Mariah May and Toni Storm.
Tony Khan More Involved In AEW Creative
The January 25 edition of Collision saw May and Storm’s issues come to a head. Toni Storm in her rookie persona joined AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May in the ring before they clash for that title at Grand Slam Australia. May launched a vicious attack on Storm, whipping her with her belt before spitting on her. But it seems that was all part of her plan.
Toni Storm was then reborn as Timeless once again, indicating that she has been playing herself in recent weeks and the golden age movie star persona is her real one.
Fightful Select has reported that many in AEW were delighted with Collision as they thought the show did well. It was also noted that Tony Khan has been “more in the weeds” in regard to the company’s creative direction lately. Khan has the final say on every AEW creative decision but this report suggests he’s been more involved in the details in the last few weeks.
