Tony Khan Unlikely To Use AEW Stars Plotting WWE Switch
Tony Khan is not going to use stars who are planning to leave for WWE.
Back in September, there were reports The Lucha Brothers were on the verge of leaving AEW for WWE. The move came as a surprise as Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo have been part of AEW since it began in 2019 and are a popular act in the company.
However, cold water was poured on the story when it emerged that The Lucha Bros are still under AEW contract and can’t negotiate elsewhere. However, while AEW made significant offers for the pair to stay, Penta is widely expected to leave when his contract expires in 2024.
The situation with Fenix is different, though, as Tony Khan has added injury time to his contract which will keep him in the company for almost a full extra year.
Tony Khan Not Expected To Use The Lucha Bros
Since reports of their intent to leave surfaced, neither of the Lucha Bros has been used on AEW TV, with their last appearances happening in July. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, they aren’t expected to compete for the company again.
Meltzer believes that Khan has decided against using any stars that are planning to head for WWE after their contracts expire.
“Penta’s deal was not extended, they didn’t have the right to do that. So he’s gonna be a free agent.
“As far as Fenix, my impression is if guys are going to go to WWE Tony’s not gonna use them. They’re just going to be frozen for a while.”
Earlier in October, Penta El Zero Meido spoke up about his contract situation, claiming he hadn’t thought about his future beyond his current deal.
