Tony Khan Rules AEW Star Out Of Continental Classic

Tony Khan has given an update on the line-up for the Continental Classic.

At Full Gear, Jon Moxley and Kyle O’Reilly went to war one more time in a No Holds Barred Match.

O’Reilly has had the upper hand over Moxley in recent weeks, and, incredibly, that run continued in New Jersey. O’Reilly again forced Moxley to submit after enduring a vicious beating largely focused on his arm.

After the match, Moxley briefly nodded his respect to O’Reilly before attacking him yet again. Moxley eventually left with a disgruntled-looking Death Riders faction, while O’Reilly was helped to the back by Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy.

Tony Khan Confirms AEW Star To Miss Continental Classic

During the post-show press conference, Tony Khan noted that Kyle O’Reilly “probably” won’t be cleared to wrestle by the time the Continental Classic begins. Presuming he’d have been part of the tournament, many had been tipping O’Reilly for a strong run to close out the year, given his recent success over Moxley.

While it appears that O’Reilly is out of contention, during the show, it was confirmed that Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, and Kyle Fletcher will all be involved.

The news comes as the tension in the Don Callis Family continues to increase. The latest point of contention came after Okada, Takeshita, and Hechicero failed to beat El Sky Team, and in the process missed out on the CMLL World Trios Title.

In a subsequent backstage segment, Okada and Takeshita blamed each other for the loss, while Don Callis claimed they’d be the best team in AEW history if they could just get on the same page. At this, Fletcher got involved, saying that neither man was there for him when he lost the TNT Championship to Mark Briscoe.

The Continental Classic is set to begin on the November 26 episode of Dynamite. Should Takeshita win, he’ll become the first man to win the tournament and the iconic NJPW G1 Climax in the same year.
