Tony Khan Questioned Over AEW Management Structure
Tony Khan remains in 100% control of AEW.
After several months of speculation, claims, and counter-claims, it was announced on October 2nd that All Elite Wrestling had reached a new media rights agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The new agreement is believed to run for three years, with the option of a fourth on the table.
In one follow-up report, it was noted that the deal could be worth a stunning $555 million across three years.
Following the announcement, it was noted by the Sports Business Journal that WBD had an ownership stake in AEW. Tony Khan has never publicly confirmed WBD’s status, but speculation around AEW’s ownership has existed for several years.
During the pre-AEW WrestleDream media call, Khan was asked by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp about the claims in the report.
“It’s a fair question. I will not get into our ownership structure beyond saying I have 100% of the voting stock in this company and have since the beginning and hold the vast majority of shares. I think that’s fair to say. As the sole voting owner and the vast majority shareholder of the company, I think that speaks volumes and I’m the controlling owner with 100% voting control of the business.”
Chris Jericho Praises Tony Khan
During a recent interview, Chris Jericho suggested AEW had made so-called wrestling experts look like “idiots” with its new media rights deal.
Jericho said that the kind of deal agreed was unheard of for a company that is just five years old. The veteran added that neither he nor Tony Khan are going anywhere, explaining that the media rights contract is good news for the wrestling industry as a whole and not just AEW.
Chris Jericho is set to be back in action at WrestleDream on October 12th where he’ll challenge Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Championship.
