Tony Khan Reveals Adam Copeland’s AEW Future, Addresses WWE Rumours

Adam Copeland Cope AEW

Tony Khan has broken his silence on the rumours linking Adam Copeland with a return to WWE to face John Cena.

John Cena’s in-ring career is winding down, and on his way out the door, the 17-time WWE Champion is paying tribute to his many rivals whom he won’t get to share a ring with again. Cena has borrowed moves from the likes of The Miz, Rusev, The Undertaker, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt, and Edge in his final matches, and it was his Spear to pay homage to the Rated-R Superstar that really captured people’s imaginations.

The man now known as Adam Copeland in AEW returned the favour by using Cena’s five knuckle shuffle, complete with signature ‘You can’t see me’ taunt. For some reason, all of this led a certain section of fans to wonder if this could all be pointing towards Copeland returning to WWE to be Cena’s final opponent.

And then that same section of fans could get angry with Tony Khan and AEW for their fantasy booking not happening, despite never being part of the plans.

WWE Did Not Ask Tony Khan For Adam Copeland Return

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan addressed the situation head-on and noted that WWE had never contacted AEW about using Copeland, but he did suggest that the Rated-R Superstar’s contract with the company comes to an end at the end of 2025:

I mean, never say never in wrestling, cause I could imagine they could always extend that date past the end of the year, but no, Adam’s going to be here with us through the year and he is a huge part of AEW.
