Tony Khan Makes Heartbreaking Statement About Adam Cole’s AEW Future
Adam Cole was set to defend the TNT Championship against Kyle Fletcher at AEW All In Texas, but had to relinquish his title.
However, just hours before the show, it was announced that Cole would not be able to compete due to serious health concerns. What followed was an emotional in-ring address from the AEW star that left fans heartbroken and uncertain about his future in wrestling.
Cole, visibly emotional, walked to the ring and told the crowd he was unable to wrestle. He revealed he’s been dealing with health issues severe enough to force him out of action for an indefinite period, even admitting that the idea of retirement crossed his mind.
Though he stressed he wasn’t in the right headspace to make that decision. What made the moment even more gut-wrenching was the possibility that this could be the last time Cole steps into an AEW ring. Following his speech, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the situation during the AEW All In post-show media scrum.
Tony Khan Shares Uncertain Update on Adam Cole’s Health
The AEW President revealed just how suddenly things had changed. Khan explained Cole had participated in a trios match on AEW Collision and had been in good spirits afterward. Khan stressed this situation shows how unpredictable some injuries or medical issues can be.
“Yesterday we were absolutely planning, even last night when I was at ROH Supercard of Honor, we were planning for the pay-per-view. We had absolutely put everything in place for Adam Cole to defend the TNT Title against Kyle Fletcher.
Coming out of Collision, we had a trios match with Kyle Fletcher, RPG Vice vs. The Paragon. The trios match, coming out of it, Adam Cole, he came back, we talked, he was definitely planning to be at the pay-per-view and even yesterday we had talked.
But somewhere between late last night and earlier this morning, we talked, and he wasn’t feeling well. And that’s the unpredictable nature of some of these kinds of injuries, and I think it’s important that Adam Cole takes time to get right. [H/T Ringside News]
Right now, there’s no clear idea of when Cole will be able to wrestle or even speak to fans again.”
The news marks a tough moment for AEW and its fanbase. Cole’s recent run, especially after returning from previous injuries, had become one of the most inspiring stories in the company. With his status now uncertain, fans and colleagues alike are rallying behind him with support and hope for a full recovery.
