TNA Star Reflects On Beautiful Moment With Mercedes Mone
A TNA star has spoken glowingly about Mercedes Mone.
Across a wild weekend in October, Mercedes Mone successfully defended her CMLL Women’s Championship, claimed the ROH Interim Women’s TV Championship, and then beat Jody Threat to snatch the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling Women’s Title.
As a result, Mone is now the proud holder of 12 championship belts, surpassing the previous record set by Ultimo Dragon during the 1990s.
During a new interview with WhatCulture, Threat looked back on her match with Mone, describing everything about the experience as “beautiful.” The TNA star added that she’s proud of the match and everything that Winnipeg Pro Wrestling has built.
“I think that that situation, was such a beautiful thing, just story-wise, business-wise, my development-wise. I have been their big baby face since the beginning. I was their first women’s champion. That company positioned me in a spot where I’m seen as the face of the company.
So to be in a situation where we’re doing the biggest show of the year with the biggest attendance that they’ve ever drawn with someone with like millions of followers, like not thousands, millions of followers, bringing that attention to a company that has worked so hard for so long with such integrity is such a great thing.
Also, when you have someone with that star power coming into a company, sometimes they overshine those that are local. Although maybe they aren’t the good guy and are trying to enlist boos, they might get cheers. But because of the loyalty of the WPW fans, they had my back the whole time cheering. So we were able to really tell a very cool story and in the way that we wanted it to.
Like that outsider came in, she got booed even though she had millions of followers. With such a crazy resume in wrestling, but those fans just being so loyal to me, making sure that she knew she knew she wasn’t going to get those tears.
If you haven’t watched it, like I would love for anyone to watch it because I’m very proud of the match and I’m very proud of WPW and what they built and what we were able to create there. I won’t give away the ending, but even the very cool opportunity. I’m so glad that it happened at that company.”
The comments from Threat echo those made by Persephone, who challenged Mercedes Mone for the CMLL Women’s Championship during that same weekend. The CMLL star said that although she lost, getting to work with Mone proved she could work with a world-class level wrestler.
Mercedes Mone Has Big Challenges On The Horizon
Next up for Mercedes Mone is the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match. In the match inside the double-cage, Mone will team with Megan Bayne, Thekla, Marina Shafir, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue to face “Timeless” Toni Storm, Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron, and Mina Shirakawa.
Just ten days later, Mone will then challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear.
