TNA’s Joe Hendry Calls Out Major WWE Name

Joe Hendry wants one of the biggest WWE superstars of all time to challenge him for the TNA World Title.

A multi-year partnership was announced between WWE and TNA that will see wrestlers cross over to other brands. While the WWE part of the deal will likely feature NXT talent mainly, there could be some main roster talent who “cross the line” to TNA Wrestling as well.

The partnership between the two companies has led to fans wondering if TNA Tag Team Champions The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy) could make a WWE return or if a former TNA wrestler like Ethan Page could return “home” as a surprise.

At TNA Genesis in Dallas, NXT stars like Cora Jade, Nathan Frazer & Axiom all made their presence felt while setting up future appearances in TNA.

In the main event of TNA Genesis, Joe Hendry won the TNA World Title from Nic Nemeth. It is Hendry’s first time winning the TNA World Title. During an interview with Busted Open Radio, Hendry had the WWE-TNA partnership on his mind when he called out WWE legend John Cena for a match.

“John Cena. Let me tell you why. Look let’s let it continue. I have done all the things that I thought would be impossible. We’re in an era where anything can happen, and just before Genesis Triple H tweeted us, Shawn Michaels tweeted the show and Cena, who hadn’t tweeted about it before, tweeted the TNA logo on his Instagram. What kind of representative would I be for TNA if I didn’t call out John Cena?”

Hendry was asked if he could hang with Cena in a promo battle and showed a lot of confidence as usual.

“1000%. I love it, because when John Cena gets on that microphone he tells the truth, and I genuinely, honestly believe that people haven’t seen what I can truly do on the microphone yet. I feel so comfortable going out there with nothing prepared, and to me John Cena in the top, top echelon of talkers ever in this business.

If you don’t invite that challenge to try and step up then you are not challenging yourself. I want it, I know how powerful he is on that microphone, but I believe I can hang with Cena.”

Joe Hendry Has A Unique History With John Cena

As he continued talking about John Cena, Joe Hendry spoke about how he spoke to Cena on the phone when he was a teenager.

“When I was 15 years old, I couldn’t make a show. My friend went to a meet and greet and he says, hey my friend Joe’s a big fan. He couldn’t come, would you call him? And John Cena held up the meet and greet, phoned me from my friend’s phone and talked to me for 5 minutes. He was the first wrestler I ever spoke to, and to me, I feel that’s the story I need to finish, facing John Cena and why not let’s do it for this [TNA] championship.”

Hendry is 36 years old now, so it shows how much of an impact Cena had on his life over 20 years ago.

Whether John Cena ever wrestles a match in TNA Wrestling is unknown at this time, but the former 16-time WWE World Champion is scheduled for the Royal Rumble and plans on winning it. Could Joe Hendry be a part of the Royal Rumble as well? It takes place on February 1st in Indianapolis, so we’ll have to tune in to find out.
