TKO Executive Wants WWE To Move Past Vince McMahon PLE Ideas
A TKO Executive believes WWE needs to move on from some of the PLE ideas that existed when Vince McMahon was in charge.
It has been a new era in WWE since Endeavor bought the company in 2023 and formed TKO Group by merging WWE with UFC to create a powerful sports entity.
By late January 2024, Vince McMahon was fired by the Endeavor bosses after a scandalous sexual harassment and sex trafficking lawsuit was filed against him by former WWE employee Janel Grant.
With Vince out of the picture, WWE is run by President Nick Khan and Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who oversees the creative team. Those two, along with the TKO executives, make the big decisions related to the company.
TKO President Believes WWE Leadership Team Is Open To New Ideas
The TKO President and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Shapiro, has a long history in the sports world, having served as a former senior vice president and general manager of programming for ESPN.
During a recent appearance on The Main Event with Andrew Marchand podcast, Shapiro spoke about how Nick Khan and Triple H are open to new ideas while referencing the first-ever WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE that took place this past September to begin WWE’s new PLE deal with ESPN in the US.
“They’re open to new ideas. They never seem exhausted. They’re ready to take on a new shot, a new risk, a new opportunity. ‘Hey, Nick, let’s talk about launching a new event.’ Right now, a lot of our PLEs were created by Vince McMahon.
We need to get in the business of taking that torch and moving past that, and Nick (Khan) and Triple H created Wrestlepalooza, which is the launch event for our new ESPN deal, which did incredibly well and may turn into a superfranchise.
Not to mention from a merch standpoint, I don’t need to tell you, securing the I.P. rights and then selling merch at Wrestlepalooza, let’s just say it was a real winner…”
The line about Nick and Triple H creating Wrestlepalooza may upset some wrestling fans since the name was used for an ECW show in 1995. However, that was 30 years ago, and this was the first time WWE used the name Wrestlepalooza for a PLE.
