TKO Reportedly Discussed Buying TNA Amid WWE Partnership
The TKO Group is reportedly eyeing TNA as part of its latest acquisition.
If the deal goes through, it would join WWE and UFC under the American media conglomerate.
Carlos Silva, the new president of Total Nonstop Action, is busy promoting the company’s upcoming pay-per-view Slammiversary.
It has also been reported that they are looking for a new broadcast deal of around $10 million per year, something similar to WWE’s Peacock deal or UFC’s ESPN+ deal.
TKO’s Proposal Could Change The Sports Entertainment Industry Forever
During an interview with JohnWallStreet.com, Carlos Silva laid out his vision to elevate TNA to the next level.
A new media rights deal will help us build a more consistent fan base with larger reach. It will also provide us the opportunity to go live 52 weeks a year, and in today’s world live matters [in terms of fan interest and revenues].
Dave Meltzer shed more light on the TKO-TNA subject on Wrestling Observer Radio.
This lines up with the JohnWallStreet.com article, which outright stated that there’s speculation TNA could eventually be sold to TKO Group. And that is something I’d heard was at least discussed when the TNA–WWE talent-sharing relationship began earlier this year.
He also recounted WWE’s interest and negotiations with other businesses, while not necessarily succeeding in securing a deal.
People forget this, but when WWE partnered with promotions like Progress, ICW, and WXW, they made similar deals where WWE had buyout options baked into the contracts. They never pulled the trigger on any of them, but that was part of the plan. TNA’s situation feels like a much more viable version of that.
TNA and WWE are currently engaged in a partnership that allows them to feature their respective talents on each other’s promotions.
TNA’s Joe Hendry will challenge WWE NXT’s Trick Williams for the TNA Championship at Slammiversary.
