Title Match Set For WWE SmackDown Rather Than WrestleMania 41
A title match that could have happened at WrestleMania 41 will take place on WWE SmackDown instead.
On the April 4th edition of WWE SmackDown, The Motor City Machine Guns duo of Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin beat #DIY’s Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano in a #1 Contenders Match for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles.
What wasn’t announced at the time was when that title match between the champions, The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins), and the Motor City Machine Guns would take place.
During WWE SmackDown in Seattle, it was announced that The Street Profits will defend the Tag Team Titles against The Motor City Machine Guns. This could be considered disappointing since SmackDown has had many teams involved in the title picture in recent months, but the title match won’t be on the WrestleMania card.
The Street Profits were interviewed by Byron Saxton with a warning for the Machine Guns and Dawkins said they run this division. They were interrupted by The Miz & Carmelo Hayes. The Miz claimed that the fact that those titles are not on the WrestleMania card is a slap in the face of everybody who has held those titles while talking about his history as a Tag Team Champion. The Miz & Hayes warned the Profits that they were coming for those titles.
The WWE WrestleMania 41 lineup currently has 13 matches announced while a match involving Randy Orton will likely be added to the show as well.
