Timecop Match In AEW’s Future Says Tony Khan
Tony Khan created AEW five years ago. There’s still time to bring Timecop to the company.
AEW has long been open to collaborations with TV shows and film franchises with House of Dragon, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Yakuza Like A Dragon all appearing in some form on AEW TV in the past.
Fans attending live AEW shows will know already that Tony Khan is a fan of the 1994 cult classic Timecop starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van Damme stars as a police officer who becomes embroiled in a time-travelling adventure to save his murdered wife and put an end to the exploits of a corrupt politician running for US President.
Tony Khan Happy To Have Timecop In AEW
Khan references the movie when it comes time to tape Rampage after Dynamite with fans able to see that show live in the arena before watching it on the following Friday night. And it seems Khan would be happy to have a Timecop tie-in in the ring as he revealed on the Battleground podcast:
I would love to do that. That’s definitely in our future. We’ve definitely revitalized the popularity of a classic film. Timecop is not just a cult classic, it’s also the biggest commercial success of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s career.
The only $100 million movie Jean-Claude Van Damme ever did, and for good reason. It’s an excellent film and it applies sometimes to the world of wrestling when most of the shows are live, but sometimes you tape them, and you’re in two places at once.
Tony Khan has welcomed an ex-WWE star to challenge Chris Jericho for his ROH World Title when that promotion’s Final Battle event takes place in New York City on December 20th.
