Three Wrestlers Qualify For WWE Money In The Bank Ladder Matches
The road to WWE Money in the Bank continued on SmackDown as three more qualifying matches took place.
On July 6th in Toronto, the annual WWE Money in the Bank PLE will take place featuring two Ladder Matches with a lot on the line. To win the MITB ladder match, a wrestler has to climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase that has a contract in it. With that contract, the wrestler can cash in the briefcase for a shot at any championship at any time.
The 2023 winners both won major championships. IYO SKY cashed in Money in the Bank at SummerSlam 2023 and had a seven-month reign as WWE Women’s Champion. Meanwhile, Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40 to become a WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.
There were two Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Matches on WWE Smackdown in Chicago. The first match saw Carmelo Hayes pin Randy Orton in a match that also featured Tama Tonga. Orton was distracted by Tonga Loa on the apron, Orton knocked Loa down and threw Tama down, but this allowed Hayes to roll up Orton for Melo’s biggest Smackdown win to date.
In the other Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match, Kevin Owens was attacked by The Bloodline’s Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa in the aisle before the match. Despite hurting his left knee, Owens kept on fighting in his match with Grayson Waller and Andrade. Unfortunately for him, Grayson Waller broke up the pin by Owens after hitting a Stunner. Waller hit Owens with a DDT on the floor. When Waller jumped back in the ring, Andrade was there to hit The Message neckbreaker on Waller to pick up the win.
The win by Andrade means he is in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match along with Jey Uso and Carmelo Hayes. It’s expected that six men will be in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Chelsea Green Picks Up Huge Victory On WWE SmackDown
A Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match took place on Smackdown as well. Bianca Belair faced off against Michin and Chelsea Green. The finish was a classic “steal the pin” ending as Belair hit Michin with the KOD slam, Green threw Belair out of the ring and then Green covered Belair for a victory that some people might consider an upset.
That win means that Chelsea Green joins IYO SKY in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. There will be six women in the match.
Next Friday, June 28th on WWE Smackdown in New York City will have three more Money in the Bank Qualifying Matches:
* Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Candice LeRae vs. Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton
* Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Naomi vs. Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell
* Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: LA Knight vs. Logan Paul vs. Santos Escobar
This Monday on the June 24th episode of Raw will have two more Money in the Bank Qualifying Matches as well.
* Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Braun Strowman vs. Bronson Reed vs. Chad Gable. There was a change because Gable was originally removed because of the Wyatt Sicks attack on him, but WWE has put Gable back in the match and removed Ilja Dragunov.
* Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Lyra Valkyria vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane
