The Young Bucks Address Controversy From AEW Blood & Guts Match

Young Bucks AEW

The Young Bucks have given their thoughts on the latest edition of AEW’s Blood & Guts Match.

On AEW Dynamite in Nashville, The Young Bucks were on the losing team in this year’s Blood & Guts match. The brother duo of AEW Tag Team Champions Matthew & Nicholas Jackson were joined by The Elite’s AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and TNT Champion Jack Perry along with former AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page. That five-man team lost to Team AEW’s Swerve Strickland (the AEW World Champion), ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, Max Caster & Anthony Bowens.

It was a bloody match as usual inside the two rings that were covered by a massive double cage. The end of the match saw Team AEW handcuff most of The Elite to the steel cage and the ropes. This led to a finish where Allin threatened to light Perry on fire, but Matt Jackson put a stop to it by granting Allin a TNT Title match with Perry at AEW All In. Matthew also quit the match for his team as well.

Perhaps the most controversial moment from the match was when Mark Briscoe nailed Jack Perry with a steel chair shot to the head while Perry was handcuffed to the cage. Corey Graves from WWE criticized the chair shot on Twitter/X since his career in the ring was shortened by concussions and chair shots to the head are not that common in WWE or AEW in this era. Graves would go on to delete the tweet.

Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso reported that “multiple contacts in AEW confirmed that it was a gimmicked chair” which likely limited the damage of a chair shot to the head. Nicholas Jackson of The Young Bucks made a brief statement about it.

“All I know is Jack is fine, and that’s all that matters. We know the risk we’re taking in the ring and it wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t prepared for it.”

Matthew Jackson Of The Young Bucks Says Plenty Of Wrestlers Stood Out In “Blood & Guts” Match

The Young Bucks are no strangers to Blood & Guts or other multi-man matches in AEW because they have been a part of many of them. Matthew told SI about who stood out in the match.

“Multi-man gimmick matches with many moving parts and several complex stories to tell has always been our calling card. And we obviously had a huge team of talented people on the other side in there with us.”

“Tons of people stood out. I thought Bowens had a great night and showed just how hungry and tough he is. Jack Perry showed never-say-die attitude and perseverance. We obviously showed the naysayers again that we can still hoop and move around with the best of them.”

“In fact, I don’t know if anyone else worked harder or took more punishment than we did. And coming up with new ways to violently inflict pain on someone has become a great joy of ours. Whether it’s a barbed wire board sandwich, or making Max Caster eat thumbtacks before a double superkick so he hopefully can’t rap for a long time, I get giddy when I come up with a new way to hurt someone I don’t care for.”

Max Caster and Anthony Bowens of The Acclaimed have earned an AEW Tag Team Title match against The Young Bucks after beating the Bucks in a non-title match. While AEW has yet to announce the date of the AEW Tag Team Title match, it certainly could happen at AEW’s next PPV called All In on August 25th in London, England’s Wembley Stadium with the biggest AEW crowd of the year in attendance.
