The Young Bucks Discuss AEW Dynamite’s Impact On Pro Wrestling
The Young Bucks are reflecting on what five years of AEW Dynamite has meant for the pro wrestling business.
It was in January 2019 when All Elite Wrestling was announced with Tony Khan as the owner of the company along with Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks – Matthew & Nicholas Jackson as Executive Vice Presidents. A few months later, Kenny Omega joined them as an EVP as well.
During their five-plus year run in All Elite Wrestling, the AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks have alternated between being babyfaces and heels. For most of 2024, they have been heels who have used their power as EVPs to make things unfair for their rivals of The Elite stable, which also included AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada & TNT Champion Jack Perry.
Nick and Matt are currently on their third reign as AEW Tag Team Champions and they’ve also been two-time Trios Tag Team Champions with Omega as well.
Over the five years of AEW Dynamite, many wrestlers have come and gone, but the Bucks have been a constant presence even though some fans might be frustrated by their lack of Tag Team Title defenses.
While talking to Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, The Young Bucks’ Nick Jackson reflected on five years of AEW while recalling how they felt in 2019 when the show first made it on air.
“I can’t believe it’s already been five years. I remember during the first couple of years, we’d sit by Tony (Khan) in the Gorilla position and watch every week as the show open hit. We were almost in disbelief. ‘Wow, we really did make a wrestling show!’”
The Young Bucks Believe AEW Dynamite Has Created A Healthier Economy In Pro Wrestling
As he continued, Nick Jackson spoke about how the presence of AEW has led to good things for pro wrestling because it allows wrestlers to provide for their families and a platform to express themselves.
“Dynamite and the existence of AEW has created a much healthier economy for all of the people in the wrestling business. So many of us have been blessed with the ability to provide for ourselves and our families for years to come.”
“I don’t think that can be considered a bad thing to anyone, no matter who you’re a fan of. Dynamite has given fans of a specific taste their weekly hit of dopamine. Dynamite has given wrestlers a large platform to express themselves creatively.”
At the annual AEW Dynamite Grand Slam episode in New York City on September 25th, The Young Bucks will defend their titles against the team of International Champion Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher, a duo who are receiving their first shots at tag team gold.
