The WWE Hall Of Famer Who Says They Didn't See Dominik Mysterio As A Heel

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio opened up about his initial doubts regarding his son, Dominik Mysterio, taking on a heel character in WWE.

Speaking on the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast, Rey shared his early apprehensions and how his wife had a different vision for their son’s potential as a villain in the wrestling world. Rey admitted:

I, for some reason, always saw in my head, in my vision, that he was going to be bigger than his dad. In what way I don’t know, but he was going to bring something different to the table.

Despite this belief in Dominik’s potential, Rey never pictured his son as a bad guy.

Me, personally, I never saw him as the bad guy, I never saw him as the heel.

Contrary to Rey’s view, his wife had a different perspective on their son’s future in professional wrestling.

My wife, despite our differences, saw the complete opposite. She kind of knew and I guess moms know their kids better than the father,

Rey explained. She always believed that Dominik had the makings of a compelling heel, even if the extent of his success came as a surprise. Rey expressed his satisfaction with how Dominik has developed into his own person within WWE, carving out an identity that stands apart from his father’s legacy.

Him now becoming his own person, his own identity, has surprised me in a very good way,

Rey stated. He also acknowledged that Dominik’s independence has been beneficial for his growth, saying:

I’m going to have to say it, I don’t think my son would be doing better if he were by my side. I’m glad I kind of cut the wings off and he’s on his own.

Which WWE Match Does Dominik Mysterio Want To Compete In?

Dominik Mysterio expressed his desire to face Rhea Ripley in a match despite his reservations that WWE would book a match between the two. The last intergender match that took place in WWE was at the Fastlane PLE in 2021 where Alexa Bliss defeated Randy Orton.
