The WWE Hall Of Famer Who Knew The Undertaker Was Destined For Greatness From Day One

WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts has revealed that he recognised The Undertaker’s immense potential from the very beginning of his career.

Speaking on an episode of The Undertaker’s podcast, Six Feet Under, Roberts recalled his first impressions of the wrestling icon and how he felt compelled to help shape his legendary persona.

“From the get-go, Mark had something special, and I think that’s one of the reasons that I hooked up with him,” Roberts said, referring to The Undertaker’s real name, Mark Calaway.

Roberts explained that he believed Undertaker’s character required absolute precision to succeed. Any mistake, he said, could have jeopardised what ultimately became one of wrestling’s most enduring gimmicks.

“I knew that if he didn’t do this character perfectly, one little misstep, and he kills his gimmick,” Roberts stated.

The Undertaker made his WWE (then WWF) debut in 1990, instantly captivating audiences with his eerie, supernatural persona. His unwavering commitment to the character turned him into one of the most respected and celebrated figures in professional wrestling history.

Roberts, famed for his own psychological mastery in the ring, had a short but intense rivalry with Undertaker in 1992. Now, looking back on those early encounters, he feels validated in his belief that The Undertaker was destined for greatness.

Over a three-decade career, The Undertaker became a cornerstone of WWE with legendary matches and an unparalleled legacy. Roberts, who carved his own path as one of wrestling’s greatest minds, takes pride in having recognised Undertaker’s unique gift long before the rest of the world fully grasped his impact.

Why Did The Undertaker Never Go To WCW?

The Undertaker spoke about why he decided never to jump ship from WWE to WCW despite receiving numerous high-paying offers to do so. Undertaker recalled a specific phone conversation he had with Kevin Nash who told him the amount of money he could make working for the opposing company. However, Undertaker felt he owed his loyalty to Vince McMahon as he gave him the opportunity to become a megastar in wrestling, something that former WCW bosses told him he would never be.
