Tommy Dreamer shared his thoughts on what he considers one of the worst decisions in professional wrestling history.

During an episode of “Busted Open Radio,” Tommy Dreamer pointed to WCW’s controversial move to unmask Rey Mysterio as a significant mistake in the industry. Dreamer didn’t hold back in his criticism, stating:

I think the second worst decision in professional wrestling history was removing the mask from Rey Mysterio. When Rey lost that mask, Rey still got over because Rey was and is the most unique performer probably of all time.

Mysterio’s unmasking forced him to adapt and reinvent his character, a challenge that could have derailed many careers. However, Mysterio’s exceptional talent and determination allowed him to maintain his popularity and continue to thrive in the wrestling world. Dreamer highlighted this aspect of Mysterio’s journey, noting:

But when they took that mask off of him, he kind of had to reinvent himself.

Fortunately, WWE later recognised the importance of Mysterio’s mask, a symbol that had become integral to his identity and appeal. The company decided to restore the mask, a move that Dreamer believes was crucial in elevating Mysterio’s career to new heights. He praised WWE’s decision, saying:

At least WWE was smart enough to say, ‘Let’s put the mask back on him and forget that stupidity ever happened.’ And now we have this version of Rey Mysterio, and his career just elevated to the next level.
