The Undertaker Finally Reveals Why He Never Faced Sting In WWE

The Undertaker Sting

Of all the dream matches that happen in wrestling, there are many more not destined to get in the ring and now The Undertaker has opened up about his big bout that was never meant to be in WWE.

The Undertaker has shared the ring with legends such as Dusty Rhodes, Jake Roberts, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Terry Funk, The Rock, and Steve Austin during his WWE career but there was one match often discussed that never came to be.

Speaking on the Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker explained once and for all why he never made it into the ring with Sting in WWE and it all came down to Vince McMahon simply not seeing the attraction:

Everywhere I go on any given day I get the question. I always call it the question. Like when I do the 1 deadMAN Show. I just wait and I’m like, when’s it coming? Because I know it’s gonna come. It’s always, ‘Why didn’t you and Sting ever have a match?’ Or why didn’t this happen or that happen? Man, that would have been huge box office, it just didn’t work out.

He had a short run in WWE and Vince didn’t want it for whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He just didn’t feel it. And everybody else was like, people have clamouring for this match for quite a few years. And I mean, I don’t know, a year or two into his turn or that character change, people were sending me artwork with the billboard of the poster. So, yeah, it just never worked out.

The Undertaker Fears Match Would Have Failed Expectations

While the match was sought by fans for so long, The Undertaker thinks it’s probably for the best it never made it to the ring:

The match would have been good. But I don’t think it would have lived up to the expectations that people have for it. People always think about things in a certain sense. I think they thought in their mind of Undertaker 2007, 2008 versus Sting. It was later on than that. I can say I was way on the backside of what I was going to do when he got there.

The Undertaker only shared the ring with Sting on one occasion in his career but it came two months before The Phenom was given that name in WWE as Sting instead clashed with Mean Mark on an NWA house show in September 1990.

Sting only had four matches in WWE during his iconic career with all of those coming in 2015. Sting ended his career at AEW Revolution as he teamed with Darby Allin one last time to successfully defend the AEW Tag Team Championship.
