The Undertaker On What He Thinks Is The Hardest Part Of Being A Modern WWE Heel

WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker recently offered his perspective on the challenges Gunther faces in preserving his role as a “heel” character in WWE.

Speaking on his podcast, “Six Feet Under,” The Undertaker commended Gunther’s character work, especially highlighting a recent promo exchange with Randy Orton. However, he expressed concern that the growing admiration from WWE fans could make it difficult for Gunther to remain a true villain. Discussing the complexities of modern wrestling personas, Undertaker noted:

Heel or babyfaces these days, it’s a really fine line.

He pointed out how today’s wrestling environment blurs the lines between heroes and villains, making it harder for performers to maintain a consistent character. Undertaker also touched on the unique position of some wrestlers who manage to evoke strong reactions from the crowd, regardless of their alignment. He specifically mentioned Dominik Mysterio as an example, saying:

That’s why people like Dom, that’s why he’s such an anomaly because he is a 100 percent across-the-board heel.

This consistency in character is increasingly rare in an era where audience reactions can be unpredictable and often contradictory. For Gunther, who commands respect with his imposing presence and solid character work, this challenge is particularly pronounced. Undertaker emphasised that while Gunther’s persona is undeniably powerful, it might become increasingly difficult to keep him positioned as a villain in the eyes of the fans.

Gunther, on the other hand, is a tough guy and carries himself in a manner, right, so it’s going to be challenging to keep him a heel.

Which WWE Hall Of Famer Did The Undertaker Feel Under Pressure When He Dressed Up As Them?

The Undertaker recalled feeling under pressure when he dressed up as WWE Hall of Famer Kane. Undertaker recalled how he donned The Big Red Machine’s attire in 1999 on an episode of Raw to allow himself to get close to Vince McMahon, who he was feuding with at the time. Undertaker said due to Kane being bigger than him at the time he was worried that fans would think he looked like an “anorexic Kane” in the outfit.
