Why The Undertaker Was Fined By Vince McMahon

The Undertaker Vince McMahon

The Undertaker has revealed that Vince McMahon fined him for Taker’s actions during a big WWE match.

When The Undertaker was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022, the former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, inducted him. That was a rare occurrence, as Vince had only inducted Hulk Hogan before Taker, because Vince didn’t want to be part of Hall of Fame ceremonies when he ran the company.

The reason Vince inducted Taker is because of how close they were since Vince created the Taker gimmick, and Undertaker performed it so well for 30 years from 1990 until his 2020 retirement.

Over the years, The Undertaker has spoken fondly of McMahon, almost as if he were a second father to him, due to the close relationship they shared. Even though they were close, Taker did face discipline like other wrestlers in WWE.

In an interview on Ken Anderson’s (fka Ken Kennedy in WWE) Mic Check podcast, The Deadman recalled when he upset Vince McMahon by telling Kennedy to do a piledriver during a match.

“The only people that were supposed to do any kind of piledrivers was myself and Kane, because I think we kind of got grandfathered in after Steve [Austin] got hurt.”

“It popped in, it was like, ‘Yep, that’s what I need right now.”

According to Taker, Vince said this to Anderson: “It popped in, it was like, ‘Yep, that’s what I need right now.'” Taker claims that Vince knew it was Taker’s idea.

“He knew where it come from. And you know, there’s just times you know with him that I would have to do things and then ask for forgiveness later.”

The Undertaker Was Fined After WrestleMania Match With Triple H

There’s a long history between The Undertaker and Triple H, which includes Taker’s victory over him at WrestleMania 17 (2001), as well as their legendary matches at WrestleMania 27 and 28 (2012).

While talking about getting in trouble with McMahon, The Undertaker referenced his WrestleMania history with Triple H. According to Taker, he was fined by McMahon because of the company’s “no chair shot to the head” policy. The fine likely stemmed from the WrestleMania 27 match in 2011, where a chair shot to the head occurred, despite being partially blocked by a hand.

“Surely we can do it. We can get [away with it]. Came back, and he again, he wasn’t like, he wasn’t hot, but he, you could tell he was hot. The conversation was really condensed.

Where it came back was, is when I got paid for it, and there was that big minus. He fined the s**t out of us. As soon as I got my check, I’m looking, I’m like, ‘Holy s**t.’ I called Paul [Triple H] right away. I said, ‘Hey, man, you got your Mania check?’ And he goes, ‘Yep.’ And I was like, ‘Did you get a big fine too?’ And he went, ‘Yep.’ I was like, ‘Son of a bitch.'”

That story by The Undertaker shows that even Vince McMahon’s favorite wrestlers weren’t immune from being fined when it came to things that WWE banned at the time.
