The Rock’s Team Hits Back At Reports On John Cena

The Rock at WWE Elimination Chamber

A well-known member of The Rock’s team has called out the reporting on John Cena’s heel turn.

John Cena shocked the world at Elimination Chamber when he turned heel just minutes after winning the match inside the famous structure of the same name.

On February 7, two new reports emerged regarding Cena’s heel turn, with one claiming it might never have happened at all.

According to Dave Meltzer, John Cena was originally planned to turn heel at WrestleMania 41. Although no exact details were given, this would have seen the heel turn mirror Steve Austin’s infamous heel turn in 2001 when he aligned with Vince McMahon to beat The Rock for the WWE Championship.

As noted in the report, this plan was changed on the day of Elimination Chamber, and the decision was made to do the turn in Toronto.

However, Brian Gewirtz has now dismissed the report on social media, simply writing “0 for 2” on social media. The writer went on to take issue with Meltzer’s reporting on why The Rock didn’t wrestle at WrestleMania 39.

John Cena Was The Rock’s Second Choice

The second report, also from Meltzer, suggested that The Rock initially wanted Cody Rhodes to turn heel instead of Cena. However, Rhodes turned the pitch down, and the idea was passed to Cena, who quickly agreed.

Meltzer surmised that Cena would now need to beat Rhodes at WrestleMania, as having the Hollywood star backed by The Rock only to lose made little sense.
