The Rock’s Newest Movie Shatters Records
After a disappointing performance in theatres, The Rock’s latest movie has gone on to break streaming records.
Dwayne Johnson’s new Christmas flick, Red One, sees his character, Callum Drift, racing to save JK Simmons’ Santa Claus after he’s kidnapped by a black ops team on Christmas Eve. The film also stars Chris Evans as hacker Jack O’Malley and Lucy Liu as Zoe Harlow.
The film had a disappointing box office performance when it was released in theatres in November, grossing only $32 million on its opening weekend despite its reported $250 million budget. By the time it finished its theatre run, Red Onehad reached a box office of $175 million.
Despite this initial setback, the movie hit Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service on December 12th and now Deadline has reported that it amassed over 50 million global viewers in it’s first four days. This makes it the most watched Amazon MGM Studios’ film ever on Prime.
Commenting on the figures, Jennifer Salke, the Head of Amazon MGM Studios, claimed that the film is set to be a “perennial holiday favorite for years to come.”
The Rock Admits Bizarre Behaviour On Red One Set
Back in November, The Rock admitted that he peed in bottles while filming Red One. The habit had first been reported by The Wrap earlier in the year. However, The Great One denied other accusations that he had been late to the set so often that it caused extra costs of up to $50 million. While he did admit to some lateness, he said the claims were exaggerated to a “bananas amount.”
