The Rock Was Upset By Triple H’s Treatment Of Ex-WWE Star
The Rock believed a match involving Triple H should have gone down very differently.
After winning Tough Enough in 2001, Maven became a regular on WWE television and by 2003 he’d shared the ring with some of the biggest names in the industry.
During this period, the star tangled with Triple H on the March 10th, 2003 edition of Monday Night Raw. At the time, The Game was the World Heavyweight Champion and crushing everyone he came into contact with, so it was unsurprising when Maven was left looking at the lights.
However, the match was so one-sided and the victory so decisive that it caught the attention of one very powerful figure backstage.
The Rock Unimpressed By Triple H
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Maven looked back at the match and revealed that not everyone was impressed with how it played out. Maven said that once he was backstage The Rock took him to one side and told him he didn’t appreciate the way he’d been made to look, adding that the match could and should have been done differently.
“Following this match, The Rock would actually pull me aside and just voice his displeasure, tell me he didn’t just appreciate the way I was jobbed out, the fact that I was squashed, and said, ‘Business has to be done a different way.’ He didn’t appreciate, he didn’t like the way Hunter just pretty much used me.
I wasn’t in a position to where I could say anything. I was just happy to be on the damn show,” he admits, ‘but the fact that Rock took the time to tell me, ‘Hey, man, I don’t like what he did.’
Then he told me something. He said, ‘When I come back,’ and I don’t know where he was going, maybe he was filming a movie, doing something, he said, ‘When I come back, we’ll do something together.’ He was, he was trying to make things right.
Now, it never happened, and to be honest with you, I’m still waiting on it, but the fact that he took the time to pull me aside, and the mere fact that he was in my corner, rooting for my career, truly meant the world to me.”
The Rock wrestled just one more match on Raw in 2003, when he beat Jeff Hardy a week after his famous WrestleMania XIX clash with Steve Austin. The soon-to-be Hollywood megastar then lost Goldberg at Backlash which ended his full-time in-ring career.
Over the next 21 years, Rock has wrestled just eight more times.
The star is rumoured to be making his latest WWE return when Raw premieres on Netflix on January 6th. However, it’s been reported that The Rock could miss WrestleMania 41 due to unplanned movie commitments. It had long been thought that Rock would face Cody Rhodes at the spectacular to cap off the rivalry that began in early 2024.
