The Rock Recalls “Smoothest People’s Elbow Ever”

The Rock delivered the People’s Elbow many times during his legendary wrestling career in WWE, but there was a special one that is remembered fondly.

The People’s Elbow was one of The Rock’s biggest moves that won him several matches and championships during his legendary WWE run from 1996 to 2003. He would go on to wrestle at WrestleMania 20 in 2004 as well as some more matches in 2012-13 as well.

As one of the biggest stars of The Attitude Era in WWE, anything that The Rock did decades ago still holds up well many years later. Plus, the now 50-year-old Rock is arguably the biggest movie star in the world that’s also heavily involved in television production, owning the XFL, and having a very successful tequila brand among other things.

The SportsCenter Twitter account affiliated with ESPN shared a tweet of The Rock delivering the “smoothest people’s elbow ever” on The British Bulldog from 23 years ago (1999) on September 30th. The Rock quote tweeted it with this funny story:

“Smoothest People’s Elbow EVER. But what was even smoother was my merchandise manager telling me before the match, “Rock these are prototype glasses that were very expensive to make. We have only ONE PAIR so PLEASE don’t throw them out to the crowd tonight” #peopleschamp”

The reason why it’s considered the “smoothest” People’s Elbow ever is because The Rock was in dress clothes, so instead of doing it the way he did in wrestling boots, he chose to slide over to Bulldog and it worked perfectly.

That People’s Elbow by Rock on Bulldog would lead to the two legends facing off in a match at the October 1999 PPV called No Mercy, which saw Rock pick up a win over Bulldog.

It is not currently known if The Rock will wrestle in a WWE ring again although there have been rumors that he may compete against Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles in April 2023. That will be ten years after The Rock’s last lengthy match at WrestleMania 29 against John Cena. The “match” at WrestleMania 32 with Erick Rowan consisted of a simple Rock Bottom, so that really wasn’t much of a match. Perhaps one day we may see that legendary People’s Elbow in a WWE ring again.
