The Rock Obligated To Help WWE Grow
The Rock will always have a special connection with WWE, which is why he’ll always go back “home” when it makes sense.
Whenever wrestling fans reminisce about their favorite wrestlers of all time, the name of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is sure to come up since he’s one of the best and most popular superstars ever.
What’s interesting about The Rock’s career is that it started at Survivor Series 1996 and by April 2003 he was no longer a regular in the company because his acting career took off. There was a match at WrestleMania 20 in 2004 and then there was nothing until his comeback in 2012.
At WrestleMania 40 Saturday, The Rock teamed up with Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a match that went over 45 minutes. Rock got the pin over Rhodes, which certainly could lead to another match between them in the future.
In addition to his in-ring return at this year’s WrestleMania, The Rock is also a part of the TKO Group’s Board of Directors, which led to a massive payday for the People’s Champion and a lot of responsibility as an executive in the company that runs WWE.
While speaking to LADbible, Rock said he enjoys going back to WWE whenever he’s able to be there.
“Any opportunity I can to go back and not only make appearances, but help to expand the company, whether domestically or globally, I always go back. It’s also part of my obligation that I happily do.”
The Rock Is “Forever Grateful” To WWE
Johnson continued by talking about his connection with WWE fans and how he’s always going to be around to help the company grow.
“I came along in the 90s and wrestled for Vince (McMahon) into the 2000s, so there’s some real connective tissue that goes back generations, and for that I will forever be grateful, because it provided me a platform and a way to express myself in ways that nothing else would allow, other than acting.
So the opportunity for me to become a director, sit on the board, take that position, is just another way that I could help the company grow.”
As for the future, there have been mixed reports about whether The Rock will or will not wrestle at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. The only thing known for sure is that it is Rock’s decision and if he wants to do it, then WWE will certainly welcome that because of his incredible star power as a wrestling legend.
